Introduction

The P-5000 power loader features prominently in Aliens (1986) as Ripley uses it to defenestrate the Xenomorph Queen. It's a mechanised exoskeleton manufactured by Caterpillar, painted in bright yellow with black warning stripes.

This LEGO version was built from a set of instructions in an issue of Bricks magazine, with a couple of changes due to parts availability.

It's a relatively simple design with two slotted sides holding a target face, a back plate, a front strip and an angled base. There is a hanging plate suspended behind the target face which is intended to swing back when hit by a dart, hopefully taking some of the impact so the dart drops on to the angled base and ends up in the score area behind the front strip.

Materials and tools I used for a single target:

• Double-walled corrugated cardboard (800mm x 400mm): 5 sheets required
• 80w C02 Laser Cutter
• Adobe Illustrator (software to draw the vector files)
